On the steep hill slope above the village of Branik stands the Rihemberk Castle, one of the Slovenia's most picturesque castles and a monument of national importance. Traces of a prehistoric fort have been found at the site. The castle was built in the late 12th century and an imposing Gothic tower, which dominates the surrounding area, was added in the 13th century. Two defensive walls with towers were added at a later time, the castle, however, got its final appearance at the time of the Lanthieri family, which acquired it in the mid-17th century. During World War II, the castle was burnt to the ground, but its renovation did not start until much later. The castle's partial restoration was completed in 2017 when the building complex was renovated.
