The Kostanjevica Monastery – known as Kapela locally – boasts the tomb a French monarch. It is the final resting place of Charles X, who was exiled along with the other members of the House of Bourbon following the 1830 July Revolution. The monastery garden features one of the finest collections of bourbon roses. Another attraction within the monastery is the Škrabec Library, which was proclaimed a cultural monument in 1952. The library houses a collection of more than 11,500 books in 25 different languages, including 30 incunabula and the first Slovenian grammar. The monastery complex stands atop a 143-metre high hill and boasts a stunning view of the towns of Nova Gorica and Gorizia.
